Think Positive Thoughts
It is often said that we need to think positive thoughts and we can pull ourselves from the deep depths of despair. How on earth can it be so simple?

When you are down so far that it doesn’t seem possible to claw your way out of the huge hole you have dug, it feels like a mammoth task. It is so difficult to think straight and see light at the end of the tunnel, let alone thinking positive thoughts - this is the last thing you have on your mind.
Take Responsibility
This is paramount. If you are not prepared to take responsibility for the hole you are sitting in, then you are never going to get out. You may not want to hear that, but I like to think of it this way: If I am responsible for getting myself out of the mess I have made, then I have no-one else to thank except myself, and this is a wonderfully liberating feeling. I can feel proud that I did it myself, and the truth is that no-one except you can do it anyway. Once you decide that you are on your way up, it’s actually a lot easier than you think it will be, obstacles don’t appear as large.
Write down your Goals
There is going to be some sort of emotional pain along the way, but the positive results along the way, make it worth it. The most important thing is to not give up. Have a goal in sight and keep your focus on that goal. My goal was always simply to be happy. I am now well on my way to achieving this goal. Being happy is simply a state of mind, it is not a huge journey that we are on and finally arrive at our destination of happiness. When you decide to be happy, then guess what, you will be - sounds simple, a bit too simple, but there are no great secrets here. It really is that simple.
It’s the same when you decide to quit smoking, or drinking, or overeating etc. Once you make a decision to stop thinking a certain way, it becomes easy. The hard part is making that categorical decision. So how do you do that?
Ask yourself empowering questions
This is the single most important way to begin your journey from the darkness to the light. Ask yourself empowering questions, such as:
- How can I make this better?
- What’s good about this situation?
- What’s been good about my day?
- What am I grateful for?
Believe it or not, there is always a positive aspect in every situation, no matter how bad it is. You just have to find it, when you do, you will start to think of things in a very different way.
Onwards and Upwards

Hey Trixie, I’m loving reading your posts. I’ve heard Kurek say it time and time again regarding asking ourselves empowering questions and now I’m so aware of my language, I immediately know what is going to come out of my mouth so I catch myself and change to an empowering point of view. Thanks for sharing
Thank you Ange, it’s amazing once you get into the habit of asking yourself empowering questions, or what is good about a situation, how easy it becomes and changes you whole outlook to things. Thanks for your comment.
Love this nicely written! The empowering questions can be applied to everything…going to bed happy
